The chickens have been a bit restless the last few mornings, and today I discovered why. A mouse has been coming to the run for bits of corn and such that they've left in their dish. However the chickens have had their revenge!
This morning they were making even more noise than usual, even though I had fed them early. When I looked out of the window, I saw Migsy scurrying around the run with something grey in her beak and banging it on the ground, with Angelica in hot pursuit, squawking. At first I thought it was a feather, as Angelica has started moulting. Then Angelica managed to get hold of whatever it was, and Migsy started attacking her!
When I went into the garden to break up the fight, I discovered it was a (dead and rather battered) mouse they were squabbling over. I opened the run and let Angelica out, trapping Migsy inside, then Richard and I chased Angelica around the garden until she dropped the mouse and I could dispose of it. Hopefully that's the only one - but I'm going to stop feeding them mixed corn, because they ignore the wheat and I think that's what's attracting the mice...
